IOSI-02 continuous Iron-Ratio output

For the in-line glass melt redox sensor, the IOSI-02 signal converter can now be upgraded with a new application: the calculation of the iron ratio of the finished glass product based on the sensor’s mV signals. Instead of outputting log(pO₂) via analog (4–20 mA) or digital channels, the IOSI-02 now provides the iron ratio as a continuous output. A dedicated PC application, IOSI02modbus, has been developed to calibrate this output using spectroscopic iron-ratio results from laboratory analysis.

 


In many glass production facilities, the iron ratio of the cold glass is measured daily using a spectrophotometer on a sample taken from the conveyor belt. Unlike the scientific metric log(pO₂), the iron ratio is intuitive and familiar to furnace operators. By switching the IOSI output from log(pO₂) to iron ratio, miscommunication between operators and laboratory personnel regarding redox setpoints and control windows is effectively eliminated.

 

 

 

The added value of an in-line redox sensor becomes immediately clear: while laboratory iron-ratio data is typically available only once every 24 hours as a single data point, the continuous sensor output delivers real-time insight into both the rate of change and the direction (reduction or oxidation) of the iron ratio, every moment of the day!
